Eye stimulated robot can draw for you

Eye stimulated robot can draw for you

Would you like to have an extra pair of hands to multi task? How productive you could become with such a help! This futuristic idea can become reality quite soon. British researchers at Imperial College in London developed a new robot, which can help you paint by eye stimulation.

Painting just with eyes? Now it is possible. Without the help of any limbs you can now draw anything in your imagination’s indulgence just by looking at it. Although idea might seems pointless it can be very helpful in the future. Eye stimulated robot arm can for example assist in risky brain surgeries or help handicapped people live better.

The head of the research Dr Aldo Faisal, says:

Six years ago we started to look at eye movements. It’s a very natural, intuitive means by which we can operate devices, and so over the course of the years we developed systems that decode our intention of action from our eye movements.

Algorithm can determine the intention from the eye holder into actual movements. Robotic arm is equipped with a tracker to detect eye movement and its line of sight instead of a set of commands pre-programmed into its system. In the first demonstration, robotic arm was used to paint. By the blink of an eye, volunteer accepted a colour of paint, and then eye’s movement showed the robot what and where robotic arm should paint.

System can be developed and incorporate into different fields in the future – among other things in health care and industry.
