JumpRoACH – robotic insect that jumps
Do You like cockroaches? Brrrr. Neither do we, but this little insects are quite efficient species and scientists keep using them as a models to create robotic crawling creatures which can definitely gross us out (but also can be quite useful).
Researchers from Seoul National University and UC Berkeley developed a JumpRoACH – tiny jumping robot, that can actually also jump while crawling.
JumpRoACH weighs just 60 but can jump to 1,6 meter with very high precision. As for now, JumpRoACH not always will land on his feet, but thanks to the wings can extend after each jump to flip to robot right side up and keep on marching. For scientists it is huge design. For us – pretty much a nightmare, which – fortunately – don’t fly. Yet.
